One Day Pastel Workshop - May 14
In this workshop we will focus on the process of pastel painting, with its unique and vibrant pigments. We will focus on creating bold and balanced compositions. The workshop will concentrate on the wet underpainting technique, leading to a successful painting. You will work on a photograph I provide, or if you have more confidence in the process you can bring one of your own. Come get your hands dirty and have fun.
Beverly Kies is a regionally recognized pastel artist residing in Etowah, North Carolina. Her interest in art began at the age of five, when her mother sent her to the Atlanta School of Art. This early passion eventually led to a degree in art education from The Ohio State University.
Although she has worked in other mediums, pastels are what she loves. “The immediacy of pastels and the layering of colors works well for me.” In Beverly’s paintings the colors explode off the paper. Her recent paintings focus on the animal world, horses, dogs, cats, bears, and cows, as well as the beautiful elephants of Africa. She has also grown to love painting the landscape also, especially living here in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. She teaches pastel through Blue Ridge Community College in both Hendersonville and Brevard. She loves sharing the knowledge she has learned from this medium with her students. After being in many galleries in the area, including Wickwire Fine Art, Ann Jacob Gallery, Art Mob, Blackbird, Hand and Hand, and Firefly, she is currently selling her work out of her own studio. Visit her website www.beverlykies.com to see more of her paintings.
