First Place was awarded to Leila Starke for “Persian Pot.”

Honorable Mention went to Mike Alonzo for “Heidelberg” and the Merit Award went to Leila Starke for “Silver Pitcher.”



July Meeting and Guest Artist Reception - July 11, 2010
Time: 1:30 pm

Watercolorist Cynthia Moser will be the guest artist for the Art League of Henderson County for July 2010.  The opening reception will be held on Sunday, July 11 from 1:30-2:30 pm at the Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Hwy, Hendersonville, NC.  Her work will be on display from July 11- August 5.  Phone Opportunity House at 692-0575 for viewing hours.
 
Always drawn to the beauty of watercolors, Cynthia began with local classes and then went on to workshops in S.C., Ga., and N.C. She studied under well-known watercolor artists from throughout the U.S. Her passion for watercolors has never left her. “I love to see the paint blend into lovely transitions of color, expressing the feeling of the subject. I wish to convey my joyous feeling to others.” Cynthia has shown her work in many juried and non-juried shows and won numerous awards.  Her work is displayed in the clubhouse at Wolf Laurel Country Club in Mars Hill , N.C. , and Red Step Artworks in Hendersonville , N.C. She is a member of the Art League of Henderson County , the High Country Water Media Society, and a Signature member of the Watercolor Society of N. C.

Following the reception, a program will be presented by Jim Morrison. Mr. Morrison is a Nationally recognized watercolorist. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.  
He will be doing a fall scene from Little River Rd. for his demonstration in which he will show some of his techniques for using a ruling pen, tooth brush and grass bush with making fluid to retain the bright color highlights of the fall scene.
 
The reception and program are open to the public.



August Guest Artists and General Meeting - August 8, 2010

 
The Eye of the Artist theme show will be the Art League of Henderson County ’s exhibit for August.  ALHC members were challenged to create their own interpretation in color using subject matter from one of two black and white photographs.  Though the subject matter is limited, the possibilities are endless.
 
An Opening reception will be held form 1:30-2:30 on Sunday August 8 at the Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Hwy. Hendersonville , NC . The exhibit will be on display form August 8 – September 9.  Phone Opportunity House 692-0575 for gallery hours.
 
Following the reception, a program, ”The Business of Art”, will be presented by Connie Vlahoulis, owner of the Conn-Artist Studio and Art Gallery.  She will be joined by Wendy Outland, President of WHO KNOWS ART, and Jessica Chilton owner of SPARK Creative Wellness Studio. Move your artistic life forward with this participatory Artventure that is sure to inform, empower and entertain.

The Art League of Henderson County is sponsoring a 3-day Pastel Painting Workshop with British International Pastel Artist and Instructor, Barry Watkin. Barry will be instructing students in a variety of pastel painting techniques. His inspiration is the play of light on the landscape and the changing atmospheric effects throughout the seasons. An oil painter for many years, Barry now works mainly in pastel but is equally at home with watercolour, and line and wash.
     
Barry and his wife, Pippa, live in Crowcombe, West Somerset, England, and he frequently paints in the wilder parts of Exmoor and Dartmoor. He is a keen advocate of the sketchbook, and encourages his students to do likewise. He has tutored painting workshops in Australia, South Africa, Majorca and Italy. Barry enjoys working with students and his easy, informal manner rubs off on everyone.
     
A frequent exhibitor in galleries and societies, Barry also has paintings in many private collections. He is known not only for his exceptional talent as a painter, but also as a tutor, lecturer and demonstrator.
     
Barry Watkin’s Pastel Workshop is open to artist of all levels. Cost of the 3-day workshop is $300 with a deposit of $150 with application and balance at the workshop. Alan has been painting nature since the 1970’s. His McCarter Gallery is owned and operated by Alan and his wife Robbin, and is located at the corner of Main Street and 5th Avenue in downtown Hendersonville. The subject of his acrylic paintings are misty mountains and sparkling streams, colorful wildflowers, and majestic waterfalls—the Appalachian landscape in all its natural glory. We

The Art League of Henderson County is sponsoring a 3-day Watercolor Painting Workshop with International Artist and Instructor Ian Ramsay. Ian is a self-taught artist, born in Farnborough, Kent, England, and has lived and been educated in Britain, Canada and the United States, where he received a Masters Degree in Architecture at the University of Utah. He developed a serious interest in watercolor painting while in Britain, and eventually gave up the architectural profession to become a full-time watercolor artist.
    
Ian's paintings usually represent his travels. He paints in a representational/realism style and his favorite subjects are the harbors and landscapes of Britain, Canada, the Pacific Northwest, and the farmland and mountain scenery of Utah, where he now lives. Ian regularly teaches workshops locally and nationally, including an instructor at the Salt Lake Art Center. He is represented by several major Galleries throughout the west and Bovingdon, England, and has won numerous Show Awards nationally. His paintings are in private collections in the USA, Japan, Britain and France. He has been published in the International Artist Magazine, and is a lifetime member of the Utah Watercolor Society.
