Press Releases & Announcements:
JANUARY 2019 Members Miniature Show, Interactive art presentation at ALHC meeting
A member’s miniature show with $100 award will be held at the January 13, 2019 meeting of the Art League of Henderson County. Maximum size is 12” x 12”. Members are encouraged to bring their artwork of this size to the meeting. Works will be displayed on easels, or other appropriate support, affording attendees the opportunity to view the variety of work during a brief social period to begin the meeting. Not a member? Bring your miniature painting and join the Art League at the meeting to participate. Member dues have been reduced to $25 for the coming year.
Following the social, Hendersonville artist and teacher Miriam Hughes will present an interactive program and demonstrate a few of the ways she introduces color theory to her students. “I call it color theory in disguise, and then we get serious”. Come prepared to laugh and create during this presentation. Bring a pencil – all else will be supplied.
Hughes, a former illustrator, intended to create pet portraits and train dogs upon moving to Hendersonville 7 plus years ago. But the vibrant and encouraging community of artists that she discovered opened new doors and gave her the courage to explore and grow in her art. Given an opportunity, she discovered that she loved teaching. Among her proudest accomplishments are not her own art, which she does like quite a bit, but the amazing results her students are creating.
